Debut release from Goth Rock outfit Groovy Chainsaws from 1988 (12" EP ).
Groovy Chainsaws consisted of Alien Sex Fiend founder member Yaxi, his German girlfriend Katrina, Turkey from Turkey Bones & The Wild Dogs and drummer Batteries. It was recorded at: Von's Studios, Liverpool Rd, London, N7. The band only had one other release, the EP Bad Situation on Flicknife Records 2 years later.
Side A's opener 'Chainsaw' is a wall-of-noise fuzz monster of a track featuring Bruce Campbell's classic "Groovy" line from Evil Dead 2 and is the standout track of this EP.
Cross-panning fuzz guitars merge with chainsaw samples and a steady beat that will have you uttering "Groovy" as you lie in a puddle of your own melted brains asking for more by the end of it's 5 minutes and 40 seconds.
'Rock Hard' is another goodie, which sees Katrina on vocals, sounding like a horny as hell zombie hooker both chewing and screwing a hapless punter to death, and enjoying every minute of it.
Flipping over to side B, 'Voodoo Man' has a nice catchy hypnotic groove running through it and suitably doomy vocals, and closing track, primitive punk pounder 'Human Meat' sees Katrina reappear in 'zombie mode' fiercer and more brutal still, although you're probably more likely to stifle a snigger or two than a scream this time around.
An interesting and indeed a 'groovy' little slice of Goth obscurity to get your teeth into.
